Mon. 13th May. pm. Phnom Penh

To the National Museum, a treasure house of Buddha statues from Angkor.


Followed by a trip to 'The Foreign Correspondent's Club' to watch the King's birthday fireworks and some very welcome Margaritas after a rather confronting day.


Mon. 13th May. Tuol Sleng. The S-21 killing machine.

Tuol Sleng was a school coverted by the Khmer Rouge into a prison and death camp. 20,000 people were killed here.








Mon. 13th May. The Killing Fields of Choeung Ek.


To Choeung Ek about 15 km. out of town, site of one of the main Killing Fields . There were over 300 of these death factories in Cambodia between 1975 and 1979.

A modern pagoda holds over 8,000 skulls from this partially excavated site.




Paula beside one of the dozens of mass graves. This one alone had over 450 victims in it.
 

There were bones and teeth literally sticking out of the pathways around the pits.

A trip around Phnom Penh. It was the King's birthday so nice and quiet.

In the grounds of the Royal Palace is the Silver Pagoda. 15,000 pure silver tiles wighing 1 kg. each cover the floor.

There is also a statue of Buddha Maitreya in solid gold weighing 95 kg. with a 28 Carat diamond in the forehead!





Sun. 12th May. To CAMBODIA

Arrived in Phnom Penh Sunday evening. Straight out to Anjali for 'Cambodia Beer' & spring rolls.
