Also our last night on Lord Howe Island.
To 'Pandanus' restaurant for tuna carpaccio, steak, ice-cream - and of course, a good bottle of Pinot Grigio.
And Jake came too;

7th Day LHI. Fri. 23rd Jan.
A bit stiff, but still able to cycle round the island.
More birds! I think I'm turning into a 'twitcher' - it'll be anorak & binoculars before long.
This first is 'Blinky' the Masked Booby in attack mode.
In the afternoon I went for a 2 hour snorkel in the lagoon and for 10 minutes swam with a beautiful large green turtle

6th Day LHI. Thu. 22nd Jan.
An 8 hour trip up Mt. Gower - 875 m., 2,870 ft - straight out of the ocean.
This was our only rainy day, but it was a tropical downpour. By 8.00 we were soaked to the skin. The climb has fixed ropes in places and like all these things it's harder on the legs coming down.

5th Day LHI. Wed. 21st Jan.
A spot of tennis against Jake - possibly my first games in 12 years!
Biking around the place, Paula spotted some baby Terns. There's no nest, the single egg just laid on a tree branch and the little fella just lives there until it's time to fly off.
RARE BIRD ALERT!!!!The Lord Howe Island woodhen, a flightless bird - LESS THAN 300 IN THE WORLD!
The population was down to 37 and a breeding programme has them back up to 250 to 300. This one was just walking under a tree and came right up to my feet.
An evening BBQ with a pure blonde.

2nd Day LHI. Sun. 18th Jan.
1st Day Lord Howe Island. Sat. 17th January
A 2 hour flight to LHI from Brisbane.
This place is a paradise.
Only 380 people live on the island and there are only 400 hotel rooms. No high rise. Only a handful of cars. NO mobile phones! Several superb restaurants - and a lift back to your hotel at the end of the meal!
traight down to Ned's beach after picking up our bicycles.
Across the lagoon to Mt. Gower - 875 m (2,870 ft)
On to the jetty in the evening to watch the sun set.

Heading off to Lord Howe Island
Paula, Jake & myself are off to Lord Howe for a week.
A very spectacular place with a limited number of visitors allowed. Great snorkelling & walking.
This is a photo I took on our last trip there.
There is an excellent website at http://www.lordhoweisland.info/
